FUN FACTS: The Halloween costume party tradition dates back at to at least the Middle Ages, when churches that were too poor to display the relics of martyred saints on All Saints Day allowed members to dress up as saints instead. Like many Christian traditions, however, there is dispute about whether the tradition of costumes was adapted from earlier pagan traditions due to the placement of All Saints Day near the existing Gaelic holiday of Samhain.
